Congregation Progress 2/8

This week I searched Google maps for rough dimensions of the Cathedral Church of the Nativity and did a rough model of the church. I also did a visit to the site to get a better picture than what Google could provide.

This topographic map from the USGS website doesn’t provide the most specific information so I will need to do a deeper dive into the topographic information of the area since the building is set into a hill.

I did a Wikipedia search on the building and found that the building is actually really connected to Lehigh University.

1864- First built by Edward Tuckerman Potter in the English Gothic Revival style, and it was just the front building at the entrance.

1887- Nave, chancel, and ionic apse were added on by E.M. Burns. The chancel was erected by Robert Packer Linderman with his sister Sally and brother Garrett Brodhead Linderman Jr.

1899- Robert Packer Linderman gave the building the Ionic Rood Screen.

Also 1899- Robert Heysham Sayre installed the font and baptistry.

ALSO 1899- Warren Abbot Wilbur built the tower in memory of his wife Sallie Packer Linderman Wilbur (who knew they were all part of the same family???)

Moving forward, I want to go to the church on a week day when I can ask someone who works there for a set of floor plans as well as get better interior views. This will help me to get a better idea of the movement within the church and how exactly people congregate in different ways.
